Ask Betty

Dear Betty,
Okay, I know this sounds totally vain, but my question is about how to have a good beach hair day—you know, on days you don't go to the beach. My hair looks sexy and curly and carefree after a dip in the ocean, but it's limp on other days. Help a girl have a good hair day every day?Susie, Santa Monica, CA

Dear Susie:
There are a number of products out there that promise to give you beach hair, but many contain chemicals you'd rather not spray on your head. There are two eco-friendly companies that make products that we have splurged on: Kusco-Murphy's Beach Hair (ingredients include coconut and crushed bamboo) and Hamadi's Shea Spray (ingredients include kelp and shea). You can also try making your own sea mist in a bottle, with water and sea salt and a few drops of essential oil. Spray on your hair when still wet then warm some shea butter or coconut oil (a little goes a long way) in your hands and scrunch your hair with your hands, twisting some curls with your fingers. Voila, beachy hair. Of course, nothing beats a chance to catch waves, so grab your board and get out there!

Enjoy the ride,
Betty
